The Netherlands win women’s 3,000m short track speed skating relay

The Netherlands have bagged a sixth gold medal of the Games with victory in the women’s 3,000m short track speed skating relay.

The team of Suzanne Schulting, Selma Poutsma, Xandra Velzeboer and Yara van Kerkhof broke their own Olympic record from four years ago in Pyeongchang with a time of 4:03.409 ahead of South Korea in second and China in third.

“It’s really special we trained really hard for this. We knew we were so good this season. We are so happy that we did it here,” van Kerkhof said.

For Schulting, it’s a second gold of the Games – and third medal overall. She added: “It’s not only me, it’s Selma, Xandra and Yara. We all did a great job. I was actually so happy we were able to do it.

“I realized real quick (when I crossed the line), we became Olympic champions. I am so proud of the girls. They did an amazing job. We did it.”

That makes it 12 medals for the Netherlands at the Games so far – third in the table behind Norway and Germany.
